PoE power supply has become very popular in the security field. Basically, 60% of network monitoring projects use PoE power supply mode to avoid complicated power supply wiring. This technology integrates the advantages of the traditional centralized power supply and independent power supply. Its emergence and development not only avoids power supply construction but also makes the entire monitoring system more stable.

The PoE switch is the representative and “executor” of the PoE power supply. It usually has several PoE power ports, which can supply power to 4 to 24 surveillance cameras at the same time. There is also a Gigabit uplink port, which is directly connected to the aggregation switch. PoE switches can completely replace ordinary switches for the access layer in network systems.

Two standards for PoE power supply, IEEE802.3af, and IEEE802.3at, the former was proposed in 2003, and the latter was proposed in 2006, which is a more advanced PoE power supply standard. Various PoE switches suitable for network monitoring and market are emerging in the market, including 250-meter PoE switches and 10 Gigabit switches. Speaking of 250-meter PoE switches, there are several kinds on the market. Is it really practical for this kind of PoE switch that can transfer power and data to a distance of 250 meters?

The power supply distance of a PoE switch is generally 100 meters. In some cases, this distance is too short to meet the monitoring of engineering requirements. If you use two switches, not only increase the cost, but also increase the loss, it is not wise. As a result, PoE switch manufacturers continue to innovate and introduce a PoE switch that can transmit 250 meters. It adopts data extension mode and breaks through the limit of 100 meters. It can provide 10M and 250 meters long-distance power transmission, and solve the project power supply such as monitoring engineering and wireless coverage. The problem of insufficient distance can replace the extender and part of the fiber, expand the scope of equipment and reduce engineering costs.

Therefore, it is said that the 250-meter power supply distance is achieved by compressing the bandwidth of 100M into 10M, which may affect the video image transmission, and may cause delay. Really?

Yes, the 250-meter power supply does change the 100Mbps rate to 10Mbps, but at the same time, it uses 8-core intelligent power supply technology. The voltage drop on the network cable is small and the loss is small. In addition, the voltage amplitude of the RJ45 port of the PoE switch is increased from 0.98V to 2.2V, which can drive the signal and power transmission to 250 meters, and there is no phenomenon that the video picture is stuck. Of course, if you really want HD or Ultra HD, don’t choose this.

The 250-meter power PoE switch has its own reasons, which makes the PoE switch application an additional choice. It is the best and most suitable choice for distances greater than 100 meters and not an ultra-high definition camera. Therefore, the 250-meter power PoE switch has practical significance. At present, it has been successfully applied in many monitoring projects.
